What a Day in Drug or Alcohol Rehab is Like
Attending Alcohol rehab or drug rehab can be stressful. At Transformations by the Gulf, we try to create a comfortable environment centered around learning, healing, and comfortable living. Here is what a day in the life while attending treatment is like.
Mornings: A Healthy Breakfast Before Early Therapy Sessions.
Part of the treatment and recovery process centers on developing new, healthy habits that are intended to become routine once you return to your life outside of a treatment center.
Mornings: Group or Individual Therapy Sessions
There is often a group session following breakfast led by a counselor or therapist that focuses on topics related to the treatment process, the 12-step program, addiction, and recovery. A significant focus during treatment is on achieving clarity about the issues, people, and surroundings in your life that have resulted in substance use becoming your primary strategy to cope with discomfort or stress.
These daily meetings, in the safety of a controlled therapeutic environment, will help you to recognize patterns of your behavior that can be changed, or how to recognize certain triggers that can cause relapse post-treatment.
Afternoons: After Morning Groups it's Time for a Lunch Break.
The middle of the day provides an opportunity to continue the therapeutic process but first a healthy and filling lunch. Before beginning after group therapy, it's important to unwind and relax for an hour and enjoy a nice meal.
Afternoons: Group, Individual or Holistic Therapy Sessions
After lunch you will have additional group therapy, individualized therapy, or holistic therapy depending on what is scheduled for the day. Holistic therapies offered include acupuncture, art therapy, beach therapy, guided meditation, Tai Chi, or Yoga)
Early Evenings: Before Attending Your Daily Recovery Based Meeting
After groups are completed for the day, the clients have an opportunity to relax, workout, go swimming, take a nap, work on assignments from therapists, eat a snack, or even an early dinner before they attend the recovery-based meeting.
Early Evening: Recovery Based Meetings
Each day clients attend a recovery-based meeting such as AA, NA, Recovery Dharma or other recovery-based groups. It's important that clients obtain exposure to different recovery groups so they can find what meetings work best for them outside of treatment.
Evening: Time to Eat a Balanced Dinner
Part of the treatment and recovery process centers on developing new, healthy habits that are intended to become routine once you return to your life outside of a treatment center. Eating a balanced dinner is important for a healthy diet.
Evening: Free Time
It's time for clients to enjoy some much-needed free time. There's nothing on the schedule but some time to relax.
